Rules & Guidelines

Sportsmanship
All participants agree to conduct themselves in a manner displaying good sportsmanship throughout the festival with positive presentation upon entry and exit from the performance area as well as throughout the routine.

Styles of Dance
All styles of dance are permitted for adjudication.

Music
Music should be appropriate for all ages and should be inspiring and uplifting. Music should not contain any suggestive lyrics or themes.
Music will be submitted via Dropbox prior to the event on the due date. Backups should be brought on flash drive for adjudication. Music is due for approval by March 15, 2024.

SMALL GROUPS: All songs/dances are preferred to be 2:00-2:30 in length. No dances over 3 minutes will be accepted.
GROUP DANCES: All songs/dances can be up to 3 minutes in length.
Any group dance longer than 3 minutes in length, requires the purchase of additional time. Time may be purchased at a rate of $15 per 30 seconds. Up to 4 minutes of extended time may be purchased.

*A dance that is 3:45 in length requires the purchase of an additional minute.

Choreography
Routine choreography should be appropriate and entertaining for all audience members. Performances take place in a sanctuary, therefore suggestive or improper movement is prohibited.

Costuming
All costumes should be modest and age appropriate. The midriff area of the body is required to be covered by fabric.

Props
Props may be used. Props must be carried on stage by the performer or studio staff. No dangerous props are allowed on stage which include items that have sharp points or edges. Anything that would affect or damage the dancing surface is not allowed. Performers must be prepared to completely clear the stage of any loose items (feathers, streamers, petals, etc.).

Large Group Dances for Adjudication (5 or More Dancers)
Each dancer is allowed to perform in three (3) large group dances with their Saturday participation fee. Each dancer is limited to perform in a maximum of a total of five (5) large group dances at the Cathedral Dance Festival. A fee of $10 per dance/dancer is charged for each additional large group.

Small Groups for Adjudication - Solo, Duets, Trios & Quartets
Each dancer is allowed to perform two (2) solos, duets, trios and/or quartets with their Friday participation fee. Each dancer is limited to perform in a maximum of a total of five (5) solos, duets, trios and/or quartets at the Cathedral Dance Festival. A fee of $10 per dance/dancer is charged for each additional small group.

Categories for Adjudication
Calculate the average age of your group as of January 1, 2023, to determine the age category placement of the dancers.

Youth = Ages 7-10

Junior = Ages 11-13

Senior = Ages 14 & up

Recognition of Excellence
Adjudicators will select the top 8-10 pieces from small groups and large group dances to perform at the Saturday evening Gala Concert.

Age
All participants must be the age of 7 as of January 1, 2024.

Cancellation Policy
All payments are non-refundable. Once registration is received, all registered participants are expected to pay the festival fee & deposits by each deadline.

*Video taping is not allowed during the festival.
